What is Laser Eye Surgery?
Laser vision correction is a wonderfully effective approach to correcting vision by precisely reshaping the cornea at the front of the eye giving you freedom from glasses or contact lenses. It’s a straightforward procedure where tiny pulses of laser light are used to recontour the cornea allowing your eyes to focus correctly, clearly and eliminate or reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses.
How many types of Laser Eye Surgery are there?
There are 2 main types of laser vision correction, LASIK and LASEK, and the only significant difference between the treatments is the way in which the eye is prepared for the treatment. The actual re-shaping process is exactly the same in both cases.
What is Lasik?
LASIK eye surgery is easily the UK’s most popular laser eye surgery of procedures to correct vision problems caused by the failure of the eye to focus light properly. LASIK dramatically reduces the need for glasses or contact lenses by treating short-sightedness, long sightedness and astigmatism. After LASIK, nearly all patients see well enough that they don’t need glasses or contacts for activities requiring distance vision.
What is Lasek?
Not everyone is a candidate for LASIK laser eye surgery. Even so you still have an excellent option to improve your vision: LASEK works in exactly the same way as LASIK by reshaping the cornea of the eye so that it better focuses incoming light. LASEK laser eye surgery focuses on the application of the laser treatment on the corneal surface. LASEK may be the treatment for you if you have thinner corneas or play a lot of contact sport.
How suitable am I for Laser Eye Surgery?
EVERY YEAR two million people trade in their glasses and contact lenses and enjoy the freedom offered by laser vision correction. Over 90% of people who have a consultation at Space Healthcare are eligible for the procedure.
